Fusiona was created to give drug discovery a new perspective and improve the molecule screening process.

Fusiona arose from our perception that Brazilian biodiversity has a lot to offer and it is still highly unexplored. We understand that the methodologies used in academia do not fully reach industry and we believe that by bringing both together we can promote innovation and sustainable development. Fusiona wants to be the link that unites biodiversity and drug discovery.

We are located at the business incubator of the Biotechnology Center from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. This provides us an unique opportunity to bring academia closer to industry, promoting continual innovation and mutations to our company’s DNA. Innovation is what drives us.

Our team members have experience with cellular biology and cell signaling, gene editing with CRISPR-cas, viral transduction and piggy-bac systems, time-lapse microscopy, image analysis, AI and a will to learn and create even more. With the combination of these skills and a bit of inventiveness, together we developed Fusiona-Videt.

A new perspective driven by a new focus

Cells are the building blocks of life. They possess all the information and machinery necessary to build an organism. Thus, by studying cells we can predict their response in the body. To do so, we use molecular biology and genetic engineering tools to make cells show themselves.

Fusiona-Videt uses fusion proteins to enable phenotype measurement without killing a cell to analyze it. We focus on living cells. This approach allows us to evaluate the effects of a molecule through time, providing information of event sequences on the cell’s fate. These phenotype dynamics are key to understanding the differential responses of cells to a given molecule, helping in the elucidation of more potential applications for it.

Fusiona wants to bring this new perspective to drug screening assays, with emphasis in cell phenotypes to ensure the practical effects of a molecule, being agnostic to the molecular mechanisms underlying these observed effects.

With our team of experts in bioinformatics, cell and molecular biology we developed Fusiona-Videt, a robust and informative phenotypic screening platform to accelerate the development of new drugs and therapies. Fusiona-Videt is implemented with more than 10 cell phenotypes, in 3 human cell lines and different assay methodologies. Our platform counts with specific markers for cancer, aging and cosmetics applications.

One single assay can generate up to 30 GB of data, with more than 80.000 events being analyzed simultaneously. Information is our most valuable asset. All this data is then combined and simplified in a report with easy understanding.
